MASCAGNI TERRACE

The panoramic terrace that distinguishes the city of Livorno extends over what was once known as the Forte dei Cavalleggeri, a fortress with a tower and a large structural defense complex. After the Unification of Italy, the fortress was ceded to the local authorities that dismantled it - along with the tower - in 1872.

It was only in 1925 that it was transformed into a chess-style terrace formed by a sack of black and white tiles, with a very elegant columned balustrade. From here you have a great view of the harbor and plenty of space for concerts, walks and outdoor fun. Recently renovated, today it is one of the most representative places in the city.

LA VENEZIA

It is the only part of Livorno that after the Second World War managed to preserve a large part of its historical and architectural monuments, among which there are several churches and palaces. Although not exactly in line with the Medicean construction, it is the true historical center of the city.

The canals that cross it entirely refer to the Venetian city from which the name derives and it is here that every year between the end of July and the first days of August "Effetto Venezia" takes place, an event goes on for several days, during the which alternate performances of various kinds: theatrical and musical events, exhibitions and cultural initiatives.

The District La Venezia, for the occasion, is filled with stalls of crafts, antiques and objects, food and wine stands and refreshment points. Even the locals in the area set the tables outside and everyone eats outdoors enjoying the evocative scenery of the livornese Venice lit up for a party.

MERCATO DELLE VETTOVAGLIE

The market is probably one of the most interesting architectural structures in Livorno, built around the mid-nineteenth century with the use of iron and glass together to create an imposing but streamlined structure. Inside there are 200 banquets of fish, food and more: there are organized happy hour at bars and restaurants that make use of the abundant local products available at the market, which, with its underground storage stocked through the Fosso Reale, is so unique how spectacular.

LIVORNO AND ITS CACCIUCCO

The famous Cacciucco is not just a typical fish dish but an authentic local institution. It is a delicious soup whose ingredients are nothing but a mixture of various fish - traditionally the remains are used or less valuable - cooked for a long time and served with toasted bread (and flavored with garlic rubbed over). A true delight to try absolutely to follow a short of Livorno-style ponchos, just to help the digestion of a dish that you would never stop eating.
